Townfoot Cottage, Elterwater • Reviews
A collection of Townfoot Cottage, Elterwater reviews from our guests over previous years
Stunning location with a breath taking view of the mountains right outside the front door.
The place was clean and cosy. The fireplace was a great touch. The beds were clean and good quality pillows and sheets.
Would recommend it to anyone who wants an escape from the busy and bussle!
We loved the location and the ease with which you can start a variety of different walks. We also liked the fact there are a number of an excellent restaurant/pubs within walking distance. We particularly enjoyed Lanty Slee's that's only 5 minutes walk away.
The cottage has modern fittings and is clean & comfortable. The rainwater shower over the bath was a treat after a day's walk.
Alun is a helpful and responsive host, always tending to queries promptly and efficiently. A minor issue with the internet was very quickly resolved. He was not intrusive but always on hand if needed. Instructions and recommendations were clear and easy to follow.
Elterwater is a perfect place from which to explore the Langdale valleys and within easy reach of Ambleside, Windermere and Coniston. Plenty of walks directly from the cottage, to suit all levels of fitness. The Britannia Inn and a couple of other good restaurants / coffee shops are within very easy walking distance of the cottage.
There is no private outdoor space, but the fells, valleys and rivers are on your doorstep.
It's also a great starting point for a number of good walks. We had lots of days where we didn't need to use to car to enjoy a day out and great views.
If you fancy having a day in Grasmere, we would definitely recommend the walk over the fells into Grasmere, which took us about an hour.
Alun was a great host, with good communication before and throughout our stay. We were missing some tools for the fire, which Alun kindly sorted out for us.
We would highly recommend Lanty Slees which is a 5 min walk from the property. It is a lovely little bar where we grabbed a cocktail and a dessert one evening, and returned the next day for a great cooked breakfast.
If you fancy something a bit more fancy, the Eltermere Inn does some lovely food. We popped in there for a nice Sunday lunch and weren't disappointed.
We really enjoyed our stay, and would recommend Townfoot Cottage to anyone wanting to visit the Lakes.
The property was very well equipped, cosy and comfortable, and we would happily return, not least because of our most obliging host.
The kitchen is well stocked too with a full range of cooking utensils. The beds are comfy and the water is hot!
The owner is courteous and highly supportive and he returned our deposit promptly. What's not to like?
The property was very well equipped, cosy and comfortable, and we would happily return, not least because of our most obliging host.
We had a minor issue with some of the electricity supply one evening and Alun ensured this was put right first thing the following morning, could not have asked for any better service.
The area is so beautiful, fantastic location for a base. We had meals in the Britannia Inn, Wainwrights and the Ambleside Inn all served great food.
We will definitely return as soon as we can.
Great location, well equipped, very clean. A really relaxing and cosy space.
We will definitely book again.
Beautiful location, wonderfully quiet and walks that offer the most breathtaking of views.
The cottage was cleaned to a high standard and we requested some additional facilities/provisions prior to our arrival, nothing was too much trouble. Thank you for making our stay so special 😊
Also - key point - the cottage stays so lovely and cool! This was so brilliant in the heatwave we’re having!
We will certainly be booking again for the next time we’re in the lakes.
Thanks so much
The cottage has a useful large cloakroom for drying off any wet walking kit while you soak in the large comfortable bath. Typically for cottage life the shower may be a little challenging for those over 6’. Lovely comfortable king beds. The cottage doesn’t unfortunately have any outside space and the courtyard arrangement is not secure for keeping dogs in or the sheep out. However the views around give you all the space you will need.
Thanks for a great holiday.
We Highly recommend
The cottage’s location is great being in the lovely village of Elterwater with The Britannia pub just two minutes walk and many beautiful walks from the doorstep.
Alun is a great host in that the property was immaculately presented and he answered any queries I had immediately.
A very enjoyable stay!
A great pub in the village is a short stroll away, good food too.
The cottage is small but comfortable and had all that we needed.
This is a gorgeous area of The Lakes and we’ll be back for sure.
Rainfall shower was heaven.
So much bigger than we imagined.
Parking outside the front door a massive bonus.
Wonderful cottage in a wonderful village.
We will return for certain
Choice of pubs/cafe’s and walks all along the Langdale valley make it a great base for a holiday, and we look forward to yet another visit, hopefully next year.
Beds really comfortable and house has very practical layout
Great walks from the door and pub in village
Alun very helpful and contactable
Had no rain all week!
Thanks Helen and Sean Birmingham 17th - 24th March 2018
we've also stayed at the owners other cottage in Troutbeck.
We highly recommend both properties, they're both decorated to a high standard and are very comfortable, a welcome pack of logs for the fire is also a nice touch. Their location is excellent for both fell walking and country pubs. We will definitely return!
The Cottage was well furnished/equiped - - nice comfy beds, fluffy white bath towels, fully kitted out modern kitchen with everything you could want for your holiday stay - including a Bosch dishwasher, built in microwave oven and high tech. electric oven/hob etc.
The Utility Room/drying room was brilliant for all of our wet clothes and there was a washer/dryer which proved useful on a couple of occasions too. The LOCATION was brilliant and we'd recommend the food at the Britannia Pub just a hop skip and a jump away from the cottage - - - - and Chesters by the River - Skelwith Bridge.
Elterwater really is a such a pretty place to stay - we are looking forward to a return visit next year! :o)
Everything was as you would want to for a week of walking, biking and boating - the weather was relatively kind to us, and every evening we came back to a cosy comfortable home-from-home to relax in.
The kitchen isn't overly well equipped for adventurous cheffing, but was perfectly adequate for our family meals :) and having a washing machine was invaluable.
Thank you
Elterwater is a picture perfect village and we will be back again soon.
Definitely be back !
A little message from Alun to check that all was well was nice to receive and we had no problem's at all.
A great place to stay and we look forward to a return visit,
Thanks Alun.
The cottage had a very homely feel and we would love to return in the future.
We found two pubs in the village (Brittania Inn ) and Wainwrights? at Chapel Stile to be right on our doorstep along with a Cafe in the village and a well stocked Co-op store within a quarter of a mile for provisions.
Around 3 miles to Ambleside with Windermere and Bowness beyond this was a perfect touring base for access to the towns, boats on the lake and more. We found plenty of walks from the cottage to Little Langdale, Ambleside and Coniston. Local walks to Skelwith Bridge now benefit from additional good quality paths by the riverside being provided by the local authorities and National Trust. All in all a fantastic holiday base!
We ate out every evening at the Brittania pub which was a fantastic dog friendly eatery, just 150yards away.
The village in itself was a great base for walking and seeing the lakes.
Will def. be returning.
But don’t just take our guests’ words for it. Come and enjoy a holiday in our fantastic Elterwater holiday cottage yourself.
