Townfoot Byre, Troutbeck is a beautiful suite in a 330 year old traditional Lakeland farmhouse. The house was built, in 1691, as a wedding gift for the local landowner’s son, and what is now Townfoot Byre would have originally housed animals. However, it has now been converted it into a charming and cosy suite with its own compact kitchenette.
The village of Troutbeck, at the foot of which stands Townfoot, is a hidden gem. Half-way between the popular villages of Windermere and Ambleside, the lush green valley that is home to Townfoot Byre is a quiet haven from the hustle and bustle.

LOCATION
Townfoot Byre, Troutbeck is a few minutes from the shores of Lake Windermere and equidistant between the popular villages of Ambleside and Windermere. Townfoot is one of the oldest buildings in the Troutbeck valley, and the cosy retreat of Townfoot Byre, Troutbeck is full of charm and character features.
A hidden gem, just off the beaten track – the entrance to Townfoot Byre, Troutbeck is tucked away, under the shelter of a beautiful red Acer and mature golden beech hedging. The solid oak, studded doorway provides a private and secluded entrance, just opposite the parking area. Townfoot Byre’s doorway opens into the bedroom area, with a bijoux kitchenette through another door to the right. Up the original stone staircase, there is a modern, luxury shower suite. Through the traditional oak mullioned window, Townfoot Byre, Troutbeck has amazing views, over the verdant meadows of the Troutbeck valley.

OUTSIDE
Townfoot Byre, Troutbeck is an ideal base for a short break in the heart of Lake District. It is very close to the main attractions, but hidden away in Troutbeck – a quiet village snuck away from the main hotspots. At the foot of a cobbled drive, which also provides direct footpath access to numerous walks, including Wansfell and a pretty hillside route to Ambleside, Townfoot Byre, Troutbeck is perfectly situated for a romantic getaway. Just a few minutes’ walk down the hill, there are some newly constructed foot-bridges over Troutbeck river.
DOWNSTAIRS
After a day out exploring, return to Townfoot Byre, Troutbeck, where the bedroom has a comfy king-size bed and solid oak furniture which provides plenty of storage space. It also has a TV, and for when you want to reconnect to the world – broadband WiFi. We hope that you will appreciate the 330-year history of the building, with the stone walls, beamed ceiling and original winding stone staircase up to the bathroom. If not out in the evening, enjoying the food in one of the local eateries, Townfoot Byre, Troutbeck’s bijoux kitchenette provides a few basic facilities, including a full-size fridge, a microwave, small sink, toaster, and kettle.
UPSTAIRS
Townfoot Byre’s fully tiled, porcelain, shower room has an extra large shower unit with overhead and wall jets, plus a handheld shower. There is LED lighting, an LED mirror, a towel rail, and basin with storage. The view from the shower room, through Townfoot Byre’s traditional oak mullioned window, is absolutely beautiful.
Please note that as this is a 330 year old, quirky property, it has a steep winding stone staircase and a low doorway, so care will be required. Please ask for more details if you need.
